13 things you should NOT do with security cameras!

  1. Do not use cameras designed for outdoor environments and place them indoors, the results will not be good.
  2. Don’t assume that wireless cameras are truly wireless, as they still need at least one cable to supply them with the necessary power to work.
  3. Do not mount security cameras directly exposed to light sources or facing the sun. Although technology has tried to fix the lighting problem, the results are still not perfect.
  4. Do not install a camera in poorly lit environments unless it is equipped with infrared for night vision.
  5. Do not install security cameras without first notifying employees, neighbors, or the public that is included in the surveillance area. The law also requires distinctive signs/notices in areas monitored by cameras.
  6. Don’t place your security cameras in easily visible positions. Criminals will be more concerned about their location.
  7. Do not mount cameras without the necessary accessories or in inappropriate positions as this will make them easily misused.
  8. Don’t install your camera by “hanging” it from the power cable, it may seem funny but it has happened before.
  9. Do not place the camera in positions that have visual obstructions or that are expected to have them in the future.
  10. Never leave power or signal cables exposed as this may result in the camera malfunctioning or even damaging it.
  11. Do not place your camera in an environment completely exposed to all weather conditions, even though the manufacturing quality of cameras has improved considerably, doing so would still reduce the lifespan of the device to a minimum.
  12. Do not mount the camera in a position that is easily accessible, as this could lead to sabotage or even theft.
  13. Do not mount the security camera at the central entrance of your premises, although it may seem strange, 70% of the time criminals choose a secondary entrance to enter.

These 13 “Don’ts” are just a few of the things you should not do when installing a security system. If you need more detailed information on security cameras and systems, Albascan’s specialized staff is ready to help you with any questions or technical selections.
